Rebel Wilson's 'ridiculous' Bridesmaids audition
Kristen Wiig leads the cast of this comedy as a maid of honor who begins to come unglued as she leads her best friend (played by Maya Rudolph) down the road to matrimony. Making the experience especially memorable and somewhat miserable is a group of colorful bridesmaids (played by Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper). Directed by Paul Feig.
Rebel Wilson admits an outlandish first audition landed her a part in 'Bridesmaids'.
The Australian comedienne says a risque casting call in which she pretended to take cocaine through her belly button helped score her big Hollywood break alongside Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy in Judd Apatow's hit comedy.
Rebel - who played Matt Lucas' eccentric sister - said: ''I started talking to Kristen Wiig and saying the most ridiculous things. It ended up with us pretending that we were at a wedding and I was doing cocaine through my belly button. They never yelled 'Cut!'.
''It was always my dream to come to America and be in movies. It's so weird that it's kind of come true.''
The bubbly blonde admits she never had film star aspirations until a stint in South Africa as an Australian youth ambassador where she hallucinated she had won an Oscar after contracting tropical disease malaria.
The 28-year-old 'Bachelorette' star laughed: ''Instead of doing an acceptance speech, I did an acceptance rap. The academy really liked it.''
Rebel says her unconventional travelling circus-style childhood has given her a wealth of comic experiences to draw upon for her film roles.
She added said: ''My family had this yellow caravan, and we would drive around to all the dog shows and sell dog products. I'd say we were one-seventh carnies.''
