Russell Crowe to play mayor of Broken City
Russell Crowe is set to star in 'Broken City'.
The Oscar-winning actor has signed up to appear alongside Mark Wahlberg in the gritty drama, which will be directed by Allen Hughes.
The film will tell the story of a private detective (Wahlberg) who is hired by the Mayor (Crowe) of New York City to investigate if his wife is having an affair.
However, the detective will find himself drawn deeper into a world of crime and corruption.
The film is set to be released in 2014.
Earlier this year, it was reported Crowe was being lined up to play Superman's dad in 'Man of Steel'.
The Hollywood tough guy was said to be in negotiations to portray Jor-El - the superhero's father on Krypton - in the upcoming reboot of the popular comic book franchise.
The role was played by screen legend Marlon Brando in the original 1978 film starring the late Christopher Reeve as the Last Son of Krypton and his alter-ego Clark Kent.
