The first movie earned a gigantic $1 billion worldwide, and many Hobbit fans certainly expect that the sequel will be more thrilling and packed with action. "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" brings together once again the much-loved characters of J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece.

2. "American Hustle" (Release date: December 18)
David O. Russell's "American Hustle" stars a chemistry-rich, top-caliber cast that includes Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams. The movie tells the story of Irvin Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), an ingenious con man who operates with his seductive and alluring partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams). The two get involved in a rough situation wherein they're forced to work for Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper), a wild FBI agent who pushes them into the enticing yet dangerous world of mafia and power brokers. Given Russell's previous outstanding works, most critics expect "American Hustle" to be another genre-defying film that hinges on raw emotions.

3. "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" (Release date: December 25)
Directed by and starring Ben Stiller, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" is a remake of the 1947 movie based on a short story by James Thurber. Mitty sets out on colorful and imaginative journeys of romance, action, and heroism along with his real-life colleague and love interest Kristen Wiig (Cheryl Melhoff). When their jobs get threatened, Mitty suddenly embarks on a journey in the real world and encounters more adventures than his daily fantasies. Set in the late '80s, the movie chronicles the tumultuous lifestyle as well as the rise and fall of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) on Wall Street. Opening right on Christmas day, "The Wolf of Wall Street" is packed with drama as it delves deep into the transition of the American dream into corporate greed, power, and drugs.

4. "47 Ronin" (Release date: December 25)
Keanu Reeves returns to the screen with the action-adventure movie "47 Ronin," directed by Carl Rinsch. The movie shares the story of how Disney crafted a movie out of his daughters' favorite book, P.L. Travers' "Mary Poppins." Twenty year years pass before he realizes this goal. Disney encounters an uncompromising writer who adamantly refuses to let the dearly loved character Mary Poppins to get transformed into a Hollywood movie.
