Based on the experience of 13-year-old Bethany Hamilton as outlined in her biography "Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board". The young girl lost her arm to a Shark attack in 2003 and returned to pro surfing just three weeks later. Also starring in the inspirational film is country singer Carrie Underwood who plays Hamilton’s church youth group leader .
