Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal for "Into the Woods"?
Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks for 'Into the Woods'.
The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' and 'End of Watch' actors have reportedly met and sung for director Rob Marshall, who is expected to offer them roles in the upcoming Disney musical, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
No offers have been handed out yet, but it is anticipated that both actors will join the star-studded production which already has Johnny Depp and Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep attached to lead the cast.
The film is based on Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's fairytale-inspired Broadway musical about a baker and his wife who venture into the forest to find the witch who put a curse on them. Along the way, the pair cross paths with a host of fairytale favourites including Cinderella, Jack from 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and Little Red Riding Hood.
Streep is in line to play the villainous wicked witch, while Depp will reportedly play a ''hungry and sexy'' version of a fairytale wolf.
The movie would mark the first on-screen singing roles for Pine and Gyllenhaal. Depp and Streep have previously shown off their vocal chords in 'Sweeney Todd' and 'Mamma Mia!' respectively.
Lapine will adapt the script based on his musical book, while 'Chicago's David Krane is due to arrange the music, supervised by producer John DeLuca.
