Jonathan Rhys Meyers is reportedly in talks to star in 'Star Wars Episode VII'.

The 'Bend It Like Beckham' and 'Tudors' actor is being considered for an unknown role in the highly anticipated seventh film in the space franchise which will be directed by J.J. Abrams, according to

Meyers has previously worked with Abrams when he co-starred in 'Mission: Impossible III', the action blockbuster directed by Abrams and starring Tom Cruise.

The actor is best known for playing English monarch Henry VIII in the salacious TV show, 'The Tudors', which followed the king's courtship and marriages to each of his six wives.

Little is known about the plot for the forthcoming movie - which is expected to follow on from 1983's 'Return of the Jedi' - but it's thought original series stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo, respectively.

The script will be written by Michael Arndt, who is best known for scripting 'Little Miss Sunshine', 'Toy Story 3' and the upcoming 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy recently announced the flick will be filmed in the UK, much like the previous six movies.

She said: ''We've devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of 'Star Wars' as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I'm thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilising the incredible talent there can be a part of that.''
