Steve Carell signs up to Conviction

November 3rd, 2011

Steve Carell has signed up to star in and produce 'Conviction'.

The 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' actor will work alongside 'Lethal Weapon' producer Joel Silver on the movie, which tells the story of a mastermind bank robber who serves five years in prison after a heist goes wrong when he is forced by an FBI agent to entrap his protege as he pulls off the million-dollar job.

The project is expected to have a similar tone to comedy crime films '48 Hours' and 'Ocean's Eleven' - which starred Brad Pitt and George Clooney and saw a group of criminals attempt to rob three US casinos.

Jonathan Herman is set to write the script for 'Conviction', the new script comes two years after Warner Bros and Silver Pictures bought a draft script which had a similar tone to 1995 crime film 'Heat'.

Silver Pictures head Andrew Rona will produce alongside Steve, and the company's Alex Heineman is in line to be the executive producer of the movie with Vance DeGeneres and Charlie Hartsock, who run the 49-year-old star's Carousel production company.

Steve's next film will see him starring in comedy motion picture 'Seeking a Friend for the End of the World', which is also set to feature 'Pride & Prejudice' beauty Keira Knightley and 'Two and a Half Men' actress Melanie Lynskey.
