Breaking PointBreaking Point is a Barnholz Entertainment film starring Tom Berrenger, Busta Rhymes, Armand Assante, and “Sticky Fingaz” Jones. The Jeff Celentano directed movie released in theaters December 4th.

Steven Luisi (Tom Berenger), a once prominent criminal defense attorney is attempting to come back to the profession after a struggle with drug addiction and a family tragedy. Steven stumbles into a complex, high profile murder case. While trying to solve the case Steven teams up with an ex-athlete turned gang member, Richard “Beanz” Allen ( “Sticky Fingaz” Jones).

Together they seek to reveal the truth and bring about justice in the court and on the street. Steven and Allen go head to head with the murderous Bowen (Busta Rhymes), a vicious Gang leader and Steven’s old drug dealer. With Allen’s help, Steven discovers that there are deep connections between Bowen, himself, and a corrupt police department. Allen and Steven discover that their common mission is the pursuit of redemption.

Breaking Point is a suitable title for a movie that demonstrates just how on the edge of his acting career Tom Berrenger is. While he has never been mentioned among the elite in Hollywood, Berrenger has had some nice roles, probably best known as the catcher in Major League. However, his performance as a former drug addicted lawyer is modest at best.

The movie opens with its most intense sequence as thugs break into the house of a former prostitute and murder her. Her baby is ruthlessly tossed out the window, only to be (oddly) caught by the former football player, Allen. From there, the movie loses a lot of momentum and clarity. There is some of the typical gun play you expect in an action movie. However, there is not a lot to get caught up in with regard to a hook or a plot. Just a story of a struggling lawyer trying to do something right.
