Weather GirlAfter learning her boyfriend (Mark Harmon) cheated on her with his co-host (Kaitlin Olson), a Seattle morning show weather girl (Tricia O’Kelley) freaks out on-air and is fired. Forced to move in with her little brother (Ryan Devlin) and deal with his best friend (Patrick J. Adams), she has to learn to cope with being 35, single, unemployed, and unfortunately famous for being the Sassy Weather Girl who lost it on live television.

Weather Girl is a July 10th theatrical movie release from Secret Identity Productions. The film is written and directed by Blayne Weaver. It tells the story of Sylvia (O’Kelley), the weather girl who can’t seem to get life right with the pressure of middle age looming. Her desperate attempt to find love and the perfect job has led her to make serious mistakes on both fronts.

After moving in with younger brother, Walt (Devlin), Sylvia becomes friends “with benefits” with his friend and roommate Byron (Adams). Sylvia and Byron promise each other their “friendship” will not become romantic. To avoid awkwardness, they agree not to tell Walt about their relationship, though he eventually finds out.

As you can foresee as the story develops, Sylvia and Byron do begin to develop feelings for each other. Suddenly, Sylvia’s feels the heat again when her job is offered to her with a pay raise and Dale (Harmon), the sleezy co-anchor, wants to get back in her life. Will she follow her heart or make the same mistakes all over again?

Weather Girl is a surprisingly fun and entertaining romantic comedy experience. The cast is solid, but the movie gets off to a bit of a slow start. Once Sylvia and Byron begin their romance, the story becomes more interesting the humorous elements in the film begin to come out. This was truly a light-hearted, fun and enjoyable movie.

One of the usual problems in the climax of romantic comedy movies is finding the right way to brings things together to make for a memorable and “right” conclusion. Although Weather Girl is not perfect in this way, the awkwardness fits with the overall theme and direction of the story itself.

Tricia O’Kelley is a breath of fresh air as the female lead. Patrick J. Adams offers a youthful, naivety, but also a vulnerable and romantic heart. The ensemble cast fits well together and you will enjoy the original story about a sassy Seattle weather girl.
