Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead Unrated Blu-ray Review

Wrong Turn 3 Blu-rayWrong Turn 3: Left for Dead is the third leg of a slasher horror movie series directed by Sci-Fi Channel movie veteran Declan O’Brien (Cyclops, Rock Monster) and available on Blu-ray October 20th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

The Wrong Turn series is targeted toward fans of the exceptionally graphic horror-slasher film.  Central in the saga is a family of mutant killers who prey on human flesh in a remote location.  The first course for the bloodthirsty family comes when a group of campers arrive, realizing only too late that ticks aren’t the only things that bite in these backwoods. But when some of the most vicious killers in the country escape into the woods from a bus transporting them to prison, Three Finger and his family may have met their match.

Filmed on location in Romania and from the producers of Wrong Turn and Wrong Turn 2, Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead boasts an impressive cast of up-and-comers including Janet Montgomery (The Hills Run Red), Tom Frederic (Blood Trails) Tamer Hassan (Eastern Promises) and Gil Kolirin (Return to House on Haunted Hill).

The Unrated version of Wrong Turn 3 on Blu-ray certainly leverages the creative bounds of social accpetance with regard to graphic violence.  With unnecessary nudity and sexuality from the get go (mostly in the beginning), the story is basically one of the filmmakers attempt to create the most brutal collection of killings (one by one) in a horror film.

As Blu-ray technology and other graphics advancements have evolved, directors and screen writers seem dead bent on outdoing each other in the shock value of horror-slasher films.  The Wrong Turn concept was creepy and riveting in its original format.  However, the latest attempt is nothing more than a step-by-step slaughter by a mutant cannibal.  The cinematography is weak in certain areas of highway travel.

There is no question Wrong Turn 3 has an audience.  Fans of the most extreme slasher films will find the killings; including a partial decapitation in which Three Finger eats live brain flesh from a victim, an arrow through the back of the head that pops the eye out the front, and a man being dragged alive along the highway, to be entertaining.  Just be advised that this is no a Friday not family film.
