Meryl Streep joins August: Osage County

October 1st, 2010

Meryl Streep will play a leading role in 'August: Osage County'.

The two-time Oscar-winner will be joined by Julia Roberts in the cinematic adaptation of the Tracy Letts' play of the same name, and the pair are now working on setting a date for the start of production.

The screenplay has been written by Letts, and John Wells is lined up to direct, reports.

'August: Osage County' tells the tale of a drug-addicted mother Violet (Streep) who has problems keeping family secrets to herself, while her daughter Barbara (Roberts) is suffering a breakdown after she discovers her husband is cheating on her with a college student.

However, the family are brought together when Violet's husband goes missing.

Harvey Weinstein and Jean Doumanian are to produce the project, which has been worked on by The Weinstein Company for a number of years.

Shooting is expected to begin in summer 2011.

Since 2009's 'It's Complicated', Streep has taken a step back from acting work, but is rumoured to be playing a role in 2011 romance movie 'Bella Luna' alongside Pierce Brosnan.
