The Final Destination Blu-ray Review

The Final Destination is the latest installment of the Final Destination series.  It is available on Blu-ray in 3-D (included 2-D version) in a special edition with Digital Copy.  The Blu-ray releases January 5th from Warner Home Video and New Line Cinema and the Blu-ray special edition comes with a Sneak Peek of the all-new A Nightmare on Elm Street as well as two pairs of 3-D glasses (limited time only).

In the same vein as previous version of the Final Destination stories, a strange premonition causes friends to abandon a day at the speedway just before a crushing pile up hurtles cars into the bleachers with fiery consequences.  The group cheats death, but if you are familiar with Final Destination, you know death always comes calling for those it wants.

The story plays out in a fairly predictable and similar fashion to the other Final Destination movies.  One by one (in the order they were to have died), death tracks the victims it wants.  The lead couple (Bobby Campo and Shantel VanSanten) in the story try to keep one step ahead to change the cycle before it gets to them.

One of the problems with films like The Final Destination is that it has ‘literally’ been done before.  These movies are not expanded on, they are recreated.  While it is fairly obvious a major purpose of this movie franchise is to market to fans of the most violent movies, the jump scenes and scary moments are well-timed, but easily predictable if you are familiar with the concept.  There is plenty of guts, blood and gore if that is your preference.

The Final Destination has intensity going for it, but as is often the case with this type of film franchise, each sequel brings in less budding stars for the ensemble cast.  The acting isn’t horrible, but there do not appear to be many future stars or starlets playing out The Final Destination saga either.
