February 24th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment releases the horror-thriller suspense movie The Haunting of Molly Hartley on DVD. Directed by Mickey Liddell, this movie tells the story of a troubled young girl, Molly Hartley (Haley Bennett), who has moved to a new town and a new prep school with her dad, Robert (Jake Weber).
The two are attempting to get away from some troubling events. Molly’s mother (Marin Hinkle) had tried to stab her daughter and is locked up in the local mental institute. Molly is still haunted by her visions and believes she is really seeing her mother at times, attempting to kill her. In school, Molly attempts to fit in by making a connection with a popular guy, Joseph Young (Chace Crawford). The resident Christian girl (Shanna Collins) and a rough around the edges type, Leah (Shanno Marie Woodward), also take an interest in the new girl. Suzie (AnnaLynne McCord of “90210″ and “Nip/Tuck”), the popular girl who used to date Joseph, has her eyes on Molly, but her interests are more vicious.
Despite their efforts to get away from their problems, Molly and her dad find that trouble is all around them. Molly continues to be haunted and also suffers with some physical ailments. Eventually, she winds up in the hospital and has a tumor removed. Visions of her mother become more and more compelling. What does it all mean? There is a dark secret that is about to come full circle in Molly’s life and it is sure to turn her world upside down.
The Haunting of Molly Hartley has not received much positive praise, despite a relatively strong cast of talented young stars. The development of the story was pleasantly, surprising, however. There are several nice jump scenes for fans of dramatic thriller moments. The characters are interesting. Haley Bennett does a great job as a charismatic but troubled teen. AnnaLynne McCord has certainly found her niche as the villainous young female. The film is entertaining and fun, but the ending is a bit underwhelming – not horrible, but a little bit lacking. Otherwise, Molly Hartley a solid thriller-suspense flick.

This movie was The Village all over again (in the aspect of the ending). It was an abrupt WTF ending that didn’t even make sense. I had high hopes for this movie and up until the end I thought it was going well. It’s not even worth watching.
