The Love Dare is a best-selling book that gained tremendous awareness after its use as a major plot device in the hugely successful film, Fireproof (starring Kirk Cameron. Realizing not only the success of the original movie and book, but also the amazing impact it has had on couples struggling with marital strife, The Love Dare team and B&H Publishing expanded the 40-day “love dare” into a 365 day version of The Love Dare and a new iTunes application.
“The Love Dare Day by Day” essentially builds on the 40-day dare. Readers that experienced joy and success with the first book wanted something that would last for a whole year.
“The Love Dare: 40 Dares” is an application for the iPhone by AT&T that has been the number one download for the company.
Andrea Dennis (Marketing & Promotions) and Tom Walters (Editor) over at B&H Publishing recently took the time to answer some exclusive questions for Movie Room Reviews in the following interview Q&A!
Q: Was the 365 day version of The Love Dare book part of the original plan, or was it a response to the enthusiasm for the Fireproof movie and the popular 40-day book?
A: It was not part of the original plan, but was a response to meet the need uncovered by the movie and The Love Dare book.
Q: Did you anticipate The Love Dare would have such great success (over 1 year on NYT best seller list and over 3 million copies sold)?
A: We were hoping for, but I would not say we were anticipating such success. We knew that couples were hurting and marriages were in trouble, and we were praying for wisdom and guidance in how to meet those needs with the love of Jesus.
Q: How did the concept of The Love Dare iPhone application evolve?
A: There was no real evolution. Our digital product team headed by Paul Mikos knew we needed to get this message onto the iPhone.
Q: What is it about this package (Fireproof movie and The Love Dare book) of “entertainment” products that has reportedly transformed the lives and marriages of many people?
A: Good storytelling that people can identify with, and a bold, clear proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ. When the destruction of a broken marriage strikes close to home, people look for a remedy, a tool, a vehicle to facilitate restoration and healing. This movie and book is that tool that will help all marriages.
Q: Are there any other plans in the works for future books, films, or other applications?
A: Yes, a Love Dare for Parents is in the works, and Alex and Stephen will announce their next movie on November 15. We also have The Love Dare Day by Day Wedding Edition, releasing April 1, 2010.
