'Thor: The Dark World' may be the ''end of the line'' for mischievous Loki.

Tom Hiddleston, who has played the villainous brother of Chris Hemsworth's Thor in three movies - including the upcoming blockbuster and last year's 'The Avengers' - has hinted his character may not survive the film as he isn't expected to appear in 2015's 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'.

He said: ''This might be the end of the line. This might be.''

Marvel Studios recently confirmed James Spader has been cast as villain Ultron in the 'Avengers' sequel, following in the footsteps of Hiddleston, whose trickster Loki was the main antagonist in the first film.

Meanwhile, despite their sibling rivalry in the previous movies, Loki and Thor will be seen teaming up in the new film - something Hiddleston himself pitched to Marvel president Kevin Feige.

He revealed to Total Film magazine: ''I remember talking with him when we were on the 'Avengers' promotional tour. I said, 'OK, you've seen Thor and Loki be antagonistic for two films now. It would be amazing to see them fight side by side. I've been the bad guy now twice, so I can't be again, or otherwise I shouldn't be in the film. So we have to find a new role for me to play.' ''
