British Film Awards nominees announced

Directed by Sam Mendes, Skyfall is the 23rd James Bond film. It features Daniel Craig in his third performance as the main character/action hero while Javier Bardem stars as the film's villain, Raoul Silva. The plot line follows as James Bond's loyalty to M is challenged over secrets from her past. When MI6 is attacked, it falls to Bond to seek out and eliminate the threat regardless of the cost to himself.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Eddie Redmayne and 'Skyfall' have been shortlisted for the London Evening Standard British Film Awards.

The 55-year-old 'Lincoln' star will go head to head with the 31-year-old 'Les Miserables' and Toby Jones, 46, of 'Berberian Sound Studio' in the Best Actor category.

'Skyfall' director Sam Mendes has been nominated for Film of the Year; marking the first time ever a Bond film has been nominated in the category, and will compete against Peter Strickland's psychological drama and black comedy 'Sightseers'.

English actress Andrea Riseborough of IRA terrorist movie 'Shadow Dancer', Charlotte Rampling from 'I' and 'Sightseers' star Alice Lowe have been nominated for Best Actress.

Irish funnyman Chris O'Dowd has been nominated for his role in 'The Sapphires' for The Peter Sellers Award for Comedy along with Ben Wheatley for directing 'Sightseers' and Martin McDonagh for writing and directing 'Seven Psychopaths'.

In addition to eight shortlisted awards, the Blockbuster of the Year voted for via an online public vote on Standard.co.uk will also be presented at the ceremony in the London Film Museum on Monday 4th February, hosted by Stephen Mangan.
