It would be hard to argue that Twilight, a movie based on the original Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1) book from the hugely popular teen vampire book saga from Stephanie Meyer, is not the most anticipated DVD release to date in 2009. From Summit Entertainment and Director Catherine Hardwicke, the film released to much fanfare and release parties at leading DVD retailers like Blockbuster and Borders, that stayed open past midnight to sell the DVD as soon as possible on its March 21st release date.
The Twilight movie is a complicated story of love between a teenage girl, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), and her vampire hero, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Bella is a rebellious, anti-click girl and Edward comes from an interesting family of vampires that has no fangs and does not dine on human blood.
When the two come together, they immediately realize their soulful connection and a thrilling and passionate love affair begins. Of course, all is not simple for this relationship. Edward must resist his natural urges when he smells Bella’s scent. They must also stand up to the challenge of a new clan of vampires led by James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi), and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre). These new vampires have one goal – to disrupt Bella and Edward’s lives. Jacob (Taylor Lautner) is another character important to the Twilight series, who is not too keen on the new romance either.
Twilight is more than just a movie – it is a cultural phenomenon that has captivated fans, many of whom are teen girls or young adult women. The Twilight four-book series has over 17 million copies in print and has produced New York Times best-sellers. There are over 350 Twilight fan websites that have helped grow the fascination and cult-like feel surrounding the story of Bella Swan and her love, Edward. The Twilight book has won numerous awards and his been named one of the best books for young adults by many publications.
While there are certainly Twilight fans of all ages and genders, there is no question young women have claimed this story as their own. It was estimated that about 75% of the theater audiences (Twilight scored one of the best US opening weekends ever at the box office) were women 18-30. Probably about 95% of the remainder were boyfriends and husbands that were dragged along for the experience. Delivering a recommendation in a movie review of Twilight is a bit compromised if you are not part of the target audience, which may be why many in the “traditional” movie reviews industry were underwhelmed. To do an effective evaluation, I had to connect with my inner “teen girl”.
The Twilight movie is a reasonably successful book-into-movie presentation. The story holds close to true for book fans and the talent is great. Women get their forbidden and innocent love story while there is kind of a nice ’superhero’ element that men appreciate with Edward’s protective mentality toward Bella. There are a few lines in the script and a couple moments in the movie that could have been done a bit differently, but ultimately, fans of the Twilight saga should not be disappointed. A nice advantage is that those unfamiliar with the story can also appreciate the movie and join the growing ranks of “Twilighters”. The DVD includes some nice special features including deleted/extended scenes and director commentary.

B+?!?!?! I am outraged, sir and insist that it is your male emotions (or lack thereof) that will not allow you to see the brilliance that Twilight is… okay, and Edward is SMOKIN!
Thanks for trying to stir the pot Cara with your sarcasm! Sorry you are ‘outraged’:)
Twilight the movie failed to leave any sort of satisfied impression on me. For 18 months of work I felt it was rushed, cheesy and lacking very good actors regardless of how HOT people might percieve them to be. For such a “cultural phenomenon” I expeced to to see a little more detail and alot more care as to the relation between the book and itself. I can only hope the next movie and its director will be able to live up to the hype (and Money) been thrown into the TWILGHT market.
great movie!. Not as great as the book but still liked it .
hi guys , i am enjoyed the movie review from this site it is really enjoyable. i like very much
http://cinemabusters.info
i agree with anonymous. They never spent long enough on the important bits like at the hotel with Jasper and Alice or at the meadow ( which was erally disappointing). However, the casting was great i think everyone fitted the role perfectly and teh effect were good ( apart from the sparkling). BUt it will never ioutdo he absolutely amazing book! I love the twilight saga!
sI think Twilight was great. I love the movie I can not wait for the next movie to come out. My grandchildren love Edward Cullen. We are reading the books now they are great.
i disliked the movie.
i had it all in my head and
it just didnt turn out the
way i thought it would be.
im sure some people
liked the book better than the movie. i liked the book better
than the movie. i want to see how new moon is. if its better or worse.
they skipped some parts that i reallly wanted to see in the movie. thats what i didnt like.
I agree with the first anonymous posting. I was underwhelmed by the movie. The casting was excellent but the story didn't seem to make sense. The development of depth of the characters was left completely to the script and some very painful emotive looks from the cast. Hopefully a new director will invigorate the book to screen link in this series
Its a great movie!
I loved the book, loved the first movie, can't wait for New Moon!
The movie is what led me to read the books which I am currently thoroughly enjoying, I actually have the movie to thank for leading me to them. I believe the movie was different and had a good sense of emotion involved within it. It grasped me easily and I loved the tensions and dangers you felt with Edward. Reading New moon drove my patience to the limits, I just wanted Bella back with Edward!
| cannot get enough of the movie Twilight. This is the best movie that i have ever watched. I love the chemistry between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Twilight is the best movie i ever watched. I really love the vampire love story theme and i like Bella Swans character.
