Getting Ready for "Breaking Dawn: Part 2"
Getting Ready for "Breaking Dawn: Part 2"
-- Advance tickets have already gone on sale for "Breaking Dawn: Part 2." Based on the response to early ticket sales, the world's fascination with the love story between Edward and Bella has not faded. During this past summer, the actors who portray the couple received some unwanted attention of their own when Kristen Stewart issued an apology for being unfaithful to her longtime boyfriend, Robert Pattinson. For a while, it appeared as though the popular couple was finished for good, and there was even some speculation regarding how the break would affect the upcoming final installment of the "Twilight" film series. Eventually, the couple did reconcile, and the countdown to the conclusion of Edward and Bella's love story has now begun.
The film will be released on November 16, 2012. Based on teasers and trailers that have already been released for the film, this final installment will focus on the Cullen family's need to protect Edward and Bella's half-human/half-vampire daughter, Renesmee Cullen. While all might at first appear to be idyllic with the addition of the new family member, that will not last. Trouble arises when one of the Denali Vampire Coven, Irina, discovers the identity of Renesmee and comes to believe she is actually a human infant who has become immortal after being transformed―an act that is forbidden in the world of vampires. The Cullens are reported to the Volturi as Irina seeks to exact revenge for the death of her mate.
Driven by a desire to protect the secret of the vampires, the Volturi hatch a plan that involves the death of Renesmee. Fortunately, Renesmee's aunt, Alice, has psychic abilities and is able to foresee the Volturi's scheme, giving the family enough time to respond. In a desire to protect their own, the Cullen family begins to gather vampire clans from around the world to stand witness for them against the Volturi. Along with the Wolf Pack, the Cullens and their allies must work together to prove their innocence.
One of the most fascinating questions about the upcoming film is how Bella's transformation into a vampire will affect her ability to fight with her family to protect her daughter. According to the release of posters and trailers, it appears that Bella will take on a decidedly different appearance in this last film installment now that she has finally achieved her greatest wish and has been changed into a vampire. In a desperate attempt to save the life of his wife, Edward was forced to bite her following the birth of their daughter during the last film. In the new film, Bella will sport the red lips and eyes and pale skin associated with the rest of her new family. Now that she has become a vampire as she has desired to do for so long, what kinds of abilities can the audience expect from Bella? A trailer for the film revealed that like her vampire family, Bella will now have the gift of speed. She can also lay claim to a few other interesting capabilities, including the ability to effortlessly leap off sheer cliff faces and waterfalls and snatch a cougar in midair. All of her new abilities should come in handy when the time comes to defend her daughter.
The young actress who will portray the role of Renesmee Cullen, Mackenzie Foy, has also stirred up quite a bit of interest amongst fans of the film series. Foy, who is just eleven years old, has already been seen posing with her onscreen parents in film posters and trailers for the movie. As part human and part vampire, what types of abilities might young Renesmee possess? That remains to be seen.
Lionsgate Entertainment has announced that while "Breaking Dawn: Part 2" will be the final film installment of the series, there is a chance it could continue with a television series at some point in the future. The interest certainly seems to be there. Estimates indicate that the last film installment could rake in more than $700 million after it opens at the box office in November. To date, critics have yet to heap praise on the film franchise, but the tremendous popularity of the book series by Stephanie Meyers has resulted the franchise being able to bring in more than $2.5 billion worldwide to date. With the release of "Breaking Dawn: Part 2," that number could well exceed $3.5 billion.
"Breaking Dawn: Part 2" is directed by Bill Condon and stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Maggie Grace, Dakota Fanning, and Mackenzie Foy.
