'Ghost' is being made into a TV show.

The classic 1990 romantic drama starring the late Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore will be adapted for television by Paramount's TV production arm.

Oscar-winning 'A Beautiful Mind' screenwriter Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner have been hired to write the script for a pilot episode.

Paramount TV's president Amy Powell said in a statement: ''We are thrilled to collaborate with Akiva and Jeff, two deeply creative and accomplished talents, on the television adaptation of this classic supernatural drama.''

'Ghost' centred on Sam Wheat (Swayze), a murder victim who tries to avenge his death after turning into a ghost, while at the same time trying to resolve matters with his mourning fiancée Molly (Moore).

The film earned five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won two awards - Best Supporting Actress for Whoopi Goldberg, who played psychic Oda Mae Brown, and Best Original Screenplay.

The movie was the highest grossing film of 1990, taking in over $500 million at the box office.

'Ghost' has already been successfully adapted into a stage musical for London's West End.
