Ellen Page didn't expect to appear in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.

The 'Juno' actress is set to reprise her role as Kitty Pryde in next year's highly anticipated superhero blockbuster, but she admits she didn't think she would be invited back for the new movie after seven years had passed since she first played Kitty in 2006's 'X-Men: The Last Stand'.

She told Collider.com: ''I didn't know for that long. I knew they were kind of doing it, but I didn't expect it.

''I didn't expect to play Kitty Pryde again, so when that came up and I met with Bryan [Singer] - because I didn't work with Bryan, I worked with Brett Ratner - it was just awesome. I feel so grateful to be back. It's not like something I've known for a year by any means. I really didn't know that long before we went to shoot.''

The new installment in the superhero franchise will see the stars of the original 'X-Men' trilogy unite with the cast of 2011's prequel 'X-Men: First Class' in a time-travelling plot when the future of the mutant race is jeopardised.

As well as the return of 'X-Men' and 'X2' director Bryan Singer, the film's cast boasts a who's-who of A-list actors including Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore.
