James McAvoy is set to star in the remake of 'The Crow'.

The 'X-Men: First Class' actor is currently in talks to take on the lead role in the new adaptation of James O'Barr's comic, according to website Bloody Disgusting.

F. Javier Gutierrez will direct the horror movie from a Jesse Wigutow screenplay and the film tells the story of Eric Draven, who is murdered along with his wife and rises from the dead to take revenge on their killers.

Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum have also been rumoured to star in the remake, which was first revealed last year.

'The Crow' was previously adapted in 1994 by Alex Proyas and its star Brandon Lee famously died during filming after being accidentally shot on set.

It is a very busy time for McAvoy - who is currently playing Macbeth at Trafalgar Studios in London - and can next be seen in 'Welcome to the Punch' and 'Trance'.

He is also in line to reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.
