As I left my last event at the Tribeca Film Festival this year,‭ ‬I couldn‭’‬t believe how much the festival seems to be growing.‭ ‬Throughout the entirety of the Festival‭’‬s‭ ‬13th edition more than‭ ‬400,000‭ ‬walked through the doors for screenings,‭ ‬talks,‭ ‬and,‭ ‬and panels.‭ ‬This number blew my mind but I understand why.‭ ‬This is a great Festival and I am so happy us here at Movie Room Reviews and The Movie Network could be a part of it for the second year in a row.

If you are not that familiar with the Festival it was co-founded in‭ ‬2002‭ ‬by Robert De Niro,‭ ‬Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff as‭ ‬a response to the‭ ‬9/11‭ ‬attacks.‭ ‬They wanted to find an artistic way to bring people back to the Tribeca area near the World Trade Center.‭ ‬According to Wikipedia‭ ‬“The mission of the festival is‭ ‬‘to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience‭’‬.‭”‬ Their mission seems to have been a success this year as I saw thousands and thousands of people watching movies,‭ ‬waiting in lines for films,‭ ‬and taking pictures of the stars arriving on the red carpets.

As for my experience this year,‭ ‬I saw several films that I believe were some of‭ ‬the best‭ ‬at Tribeca this year.‭ ‬My overall favorite was Chef starring Jon Favreau,‭ ‬which also won the Heineken Audience Award.‭ ‬I also really liked the Lou Howe directed Gabriel that starred Rory Culkin.‭ ‬I got to talk with Lou a‭ ‬little bit after the screening and was really impressed with his skills for being such a young director.‭ ‬Other films that I enjoyed seeing were‭ ‬5‭ ‬to‭ ‬7,‭ ‬Boulevard with Robin Williams,‭ ‬and Every Secret Thing with Elizabeth Banks and Dakota Fanning.‭  ‬Below you will find a list of the winners at Tribeca this year.

Not only was it fun to attend these screenings and see what is coming out this year,‭ ‬I had a blast attending red carpet events and private parties.‭ ‬I attended the red carpet world premiere of Kevin Spacey‭’‬s new documentary NOW:‭ ‬In the Wings on a World Stage which follows the incredible journey of Kevin and his fellow stage actors as they tour the world performing King Richard III.‭  ‬Getting to hear Kevin talk was a very memorable experience and it is a film that‭ ‬all theater lovers should see.‭ ‬My absolute highlight of the trip was meeting Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead at his private party after the screening of his new documentary The Other One:‭ ‬The Long Strange Trip of Bob Weir.‭ ‬The new documentary follows Bob‭’‬s troubled past as a‭ ‬young man and who he is today.‭ ‬It‭’‬s a film that not only Dead Heads will enjoy,‭ ‬but all musicians and film lovers.
