J.J. Abrams 'won't rush' Star Trek 2

June 6th, 2011

J.J. Abrams says he won't rush making 'Star Trek 2' in order to make its release date.

The highly-anticipated sequel - starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk - was initially planned to come out in summer 2012 but the film's director insists he won't be pressured to get it out by then because he wants to make sure it's of the highest quality.

When asked about the summer 2012 release date, Abrams told Collider.com: "I really don't know, we will see. We're working really hard to try and get that movie made as soon as possible but we don't want to rush anything. The worst thing we could possibly do would be to put something into production to make a release date instead of a great movie. "

With the script yet to be finalised, it is thought the movie will come out in December 2012.

Zoe Saldana, who plays linguistics officer Uhura, recently revealed her hope the Romulans would play a big part in the movie.

She said: "I can maybe tell you what I'd like to see happen. For Spock and Uhura to really hook up. Or to get to do whatever physical activities. Kick some butt, some Romulan butt."
